Dr. Kash Akhtar is a pioneering Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon with a passion for knee healthcare, medical education, and digital innovation.

Dr. Kash Akhtar is a distinguished Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon specialising in knee injuries and treatments. He graduated with a Distinction in Surgery from Imperial College and completed a subspecialty fellowship in knee surgery at Nuffield Orthopaedic Centre, Oxford, focusing on sports injuries, trauma, and joint replacement. Awarded the prestigious Winston Churchill Fellowship, he spent six months at international centres of orthopaedic excellence across the U.S., enhancing his expertise and knowledge.

Since 2014, Kash Akhtar has served as a Consultant Trauma & Orthopaedic Surgeon at Barts Health NHS Trust, one of the U.K.’s busiest hospitals, known for handling complex tertiary referrals. His particular areas of expertise include sports injuries, arthroscopic knee surgery, meniscal surgery/repair, cartilage injuries, knee ligament reconstruction, realignment surgery, and partial and total knee replacement.

Kash Akhtar’s philosophy centers on a patient-centred approach, prioritising non-surgical treatments whenever possible. He believes in using surgery as a last resort, ensuring all suitable non-operative methods have been tried first. This includes physiotherapy, activity modification, exercise prescription, orthotics, braces, medications, and guided injections. His approach ensures that each patient receives personalised care tailored to their specific needs and conditions.

Kash’s multifaceted career spans clinical excellence, impactful education, and entrepreneurial ventures, making him a leading figure in both patient care and the advancement of medical practices.

Kash Akhtar is a dedicated educator, appointed as a Reader in Orthopaedic Surgery & Surgical Education at Barts and the London School of Medicine & Dentistry, QMUL, where he directs the International Masters in Orthopaedic Trauma Science. Additionally, he is a Training Programme Director for the Royal London Trauma & Orthopaedic Surgery and an Honorary Senior Fellow at the University of Melbourne, Australia.

Beyond his clinical and educational roles, Kash Akhtar is a visionary in the HealthTech space. As a co-founder of Orthohub, he leverages digital innovation to enhance medical education and patient care. He also hosts the award-winning ‘See One / Do One Podcast,’ where he engages healthcare leaders in discussions that bridge the gap between clinical practice and ongoing education.

Kash grew up in Buckinghamshire and enjoys football, NFL, tennis, cricket, and listening to jazz, classical, rap, and hip-hop music in his spare time.
